Here at The Monarch we pride ourselves on being the first registered ECOTELŪ Hotel on Mickey's World Resort property.
What does this mean? This means that we have been recognized for our energy efficiency, waste managment, water conservation
and preservation, employee environmental education, and overall environmental commitment.
Here are just some of the
things that we at The Monarch do on a daily basis in our commitment to environmental conservation:

The Monarch has solar panels located on the roof of the resort which provide much of the energy we use. All light
bulbs at The Monarch are Phillips Energy Savers, which use 70% less power than standard bulbs and last for 10,000 hours. Demand
based ventilation systems in public areas such as Yummo!, the lobby area, and The Shoppes use mixed gas sensors.
Treated fresh air is on controlled-based occupancy. We only use cold water in the laundry. Maximum peak demand will be pegged
to the permissible maximum by selectively shutting off non-critical equipment. Lighting in public areas like the lobby area
and restaurants will be switched on/off based on lux intensity meters depending on time of day. Natural light, through
use of our large sky-lights and windows, is used whenever possible.

In our effort to reduce waste we have reusable cloth laundry bags instead of the standard paper or plastic bags used
in other hotels. These bags are used by guests to send their clothes for laundering, and the clean laundry will
be delivered in reusable cane baskets wrapped in muslin cloth. A laundry button is incorporated in the master control panel
on the telephone in guest rooms, eliminating the use of laundry pick up tent cards. Instead of "Do Not Disturb" and "Make
Up Room" signs, we have installed a knob on the door. Just turn it until it displays the proper message. Separate recycling
bins for guest use are placed in all guests rooms and throughout the resort grounds. The garbage bags used by The
Monarch are made from recycled plastic and milk pouches. All paper used at The Monarch is recyclable, guests just need
to dispose of it in the recycle bins provided. In our resturants, we provide a separate trash can for food only. This way
we can maintain our beautiful gardens with our own compost. This reduces the need for fertilizers and helps reduce waste from
our restaraunts.

Water conservation is very important to us here at The Monarch. A rainwater collection system located throughout the
grounds of the resort collects water to be used for irrigation purposes both for the landscaping and for the plants in the
buildings and the butterfly conservatory. A grey water cleansing system is key to the water conservation efforts of The Monarch.
This system cleanses water from the showers and the laundry facility and cleans it to be used in the toilets. All of our toilets
are Energy Saver products and use the least amount of water possible.

In keeping with our commitment to the environment, we use herbal cleaning products, making sure that they were not tested
on animals nor use any animal fat. We only use eco-friendly pens and pencils. The eco-pens are made using recycled cardboard,
reprocessed plastic and scrap wood. The eco pencils are not made of wood but of a non-toxic polymer with the use of natural
fillers. Woodsaver pencils are made using a shaft, which is made of biodegradable materials such as talc, gypsum and clay.
Here at The Monarch we do not use any cut flowers for decoration. Instead we use beautiful potted plants to help bring the
beauty of nature indoors. We do not use single serving items here at The Monarch. Use of condiments like sugar packets is
replaced by using sugar cubes; jams, sauces, ketchup and other condiments are served in preserved pots. All linens at
The Monarch are woven from organic fabrics and threads and all dyes are non-toxic. You can find many of these types
of products in The Shoppes at The Monarch so that you can join us in our commitment to preserving the Planet Earth.

The Monarch is proud to introduce the newest Mickey's World character, Topaz. Topaz is a butterfly fairy
and is a very good friend of Tinkerbell. Topaz joins The Monarch as our mascot and is helping to teach guests the
importance of Earth and making eco-friendly choices. She can be seen throughout the resort grounds and has even taken
a special interest in the younger guests of the resort, by opening her own children's programs. In addition, Mickey's
World Pictures will be releasing a new movie, released to DVD, starring Topaz. In Topaz's World, Topaz goes
on an adventure to save many of her endangered friends all over the Earth.
